Hi. I'm new here, but I've glad I found you all. So, I had an early u/s (8 weeks and 1 day) and the doc saw 2 babies. They're kind of forming a wide V with their heads on either side and their bottoms close together.

The doc said they're "definitely" monoamniotic. (I thought they couldn't tell definitely this early?) And, they may be conjoined. According to her some of the ultrasound pictures point to that. She said we wouldn't know for sure until the 10 week ultrasound.

My gut says they're NOT conjoined. That is just SO rare. I just don't believe it could actually happen. Has this happened to anybody else?

Hi Xerxella,
Many momo moms were told at the beginning that our babies may be conjoined. I was told that for the first three ultrasounds, but that they appeared to be moving independently so they waited to see if one baby flipped, and then she did at tge fourth ultrasound. There are a few people recently who have posted that they did have confirmed conjoined twins, including one person on the Facebook group just a week or two ago. If they are conjoined, a lot will depend on whether they both have all of their limbs and if they share organs. But it is very rare, and a lot of times the babies are just stacked up on each other early on and appear to be conjoined when they are not. Either way, you should be going to see an MFM or Perinatal doctor for your next ultrasound and they will have a higher resolution ultrasound and a more experienced sonographer who has more experience looking at twins. Good luck!

Thank you. My impression is they are NOT conjoined. On the u/s last week they only saw one heartbeat and "maybe an odd echo behind it." So, clearly the babies were one behind the other. This week there were 2 clear heart beats. So, I imagined they must have already moved some? Therefore they can't be conjoined?

I've heard alot about the facebook page. Is this it?

I'm on facebook as Susan Xerxella. Thank you.

Hi Susan! As Darcy said there are many moms that are told early on their babies are conjoined and they end up being "just" momo. Definitely hoping you are one of them!

Here's the group that Darcy mentioned as well (just click the link if you can't find it searching for it by name): http://www.facebook.com/groups/18443525994/

Good luck, keep us posted!

I'm in a similar situation. At 6w1d the doc found two babies wry close together, possibly conjoined. I gave another u/s next week on the 18th. I will 8w 2 d. I am terrified they will be conjoined.

Hey Spranomagic:

I posted subject "afraid" under expecting thread a few weeks ago. I hear you loud and clear. I am now 10 wk 4 days and at 7 weeks I was told they couldn't determine if they were conjoined. They looked conjoined I mean right next to each other, everything lining up. THEY LOOKED conjoined. At 9 week they were facing opposite directions and MFM said fairly certain not conjoined. Yesterday 10 week 3 days moving independently, so they said not conjoined!!! Yes great news but still monoamniotic, sobering news. There is hope they are not conjoined! Please let me know how it goes!!! And if you want to talk more I am here, I need it too!!!

Mojo mom,

I am glad to hear yours are not conjoined! I have a high res ultrasound on Friday and we also see an mfm specialist. I am dreading and looking forward to this appointment at the same time. Right now I am 7w5d along and have some serious morning sickness. I am just praying for two separate, healthy babies!

Oh I will pray for you that they are not conjoined! My heart says no, and I will continue to wish that for you. Perhaps even a membrane, wouldn't that be something!!! My morning sickness was intense from 6 to 9 weeks and then lightened a bit, now bouts of nausea and only some days I get sick. I am in the same boat as you, crazy emotion! there is great relief in finding out they are not conjoined, like a milestone. now I am 11.3 days and my emotions are all over the place, some days encouraged other days fearful. Seems like I am entering into the stage were all the losses occur, now until 20 weeks, it is hard sometimes to think I can make it! It would be terrific if you and I were both fortunate, let me know how it Friday goes, my appointment is Thursday I will let you know. Hope to make it to the appointment.
